AFC to Use VAR in World Cup 2022 Qatar Qualifiers

Kula Lumpur, June 17 (QNA) - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced today that the VAR technology will be applied in the final round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Qatar will host the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup. The AFC stated, on its official website, that it will continue to work on setting new standards for Asian arbitration, stressing that Asia will be the first continent to use video technology in the qualifiers. "VAR" technology will also be used in the AFC Cup final, and will also be used from the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which is the same stage through which the technology began to be applied in last season's competitions. Video technology was introduced for the first time in Asia during the last edition of the Asian Nations Cup, which was held in the UAE in 2019, starting from the quarter-finals. The AFC explained that it has organized many courses and seminars for referees in order to ensure that Asian refereeing keeps pace with all developments in the football arena.(QNA)
