Padang, W Sumatra, May 12 (ANTARA)- At least 30 students and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) activists grouped in the West Sumatra's Anti-graft Community (MAK) urged the head of the provincial public prosecutor's office to expedite corruption eradication efforts.

The MAK members made the demand in a demonstration in front of the West Sumatra provincial high prosecutor's office here on Tuesday.

Dozens of police and civilians defense officers guarded the high prosecutor's office (Kejati) in anticipation of unexpected violence.

The MAK activists in their orations requested the newly appointed Kejati chief, Syafril Rustam, to prove his commitment to conduct a corruption eradication drive transparently during his first 100 days in office in the province.

"Initiate a corruption eradication drive immediately and without discrimination," the activists said in their banners.

They disclosed, so far the corruption case handling in this province was suspended and still in the air, among other things about the street lights case.

Thus, the people requested that the corruption cases should be handled completely and transparently, they said.

On the occasion, the demonstrators were received by head of the Kejati's legal handling affairs and public relations officer, Koswara.
