Al-Watan: Developing the Shura Approach

Doha, July 01 (QNA) - Qatari daily newspaper Al-Watan confirmed in its Thursday editorial that the Shura Council contributed to prepare the foundations on which the elected Shura Council will be based on, which comes as a continuation of the constitutional building, in fulfillment of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's vision to develop the Shura approach and to expand popular participation in legislation and oversight. The newspaper said that HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday, noting that the necessary measures were taken to issue a draft law on the electoral system of the Shura Council, a draft law on the Shura Council, and approval of a draft decree defining the electoral districts of the Shura Council and their respective regions, naming the head and members of the election committees, forming a nominees committee and its work system and controls, forming a voters committee and its system and controls, determining the sources of financing spending on election campaigns and the controls and procedures for controlling it. Al-Watan pointed out that the Shura Council held its closing session on Monday in its 49th ordinary session where HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud delivered a speech, at the beginning of which he expressed, on behalf of himself and the members of the Council, thanks and appreciation to HH the Amir for the confidence and support he gave to the Council, which enabled it to carry out its tasks and perform its role in the service of the country and citizens. Al-Watan concluded its editorial by indicating that HE Speaker studied during this session all the draft laws that were sent by the esteemed government and made recommendations regarding them, adding that they were truly important draft laws that have a direct impact on all aspects of life in the country, whether in the fields of development and services. HE pointed out that among the most important draft laws that the Council studied, discussed and recommended was a draft law on the election system of the Shura Council and a draft law on the Shura Council, the newspaper added.
