The Peninsula Commends Development of Bilateral Relations between Qatar, Mexico

Doha, July 01 (QNA) - The English-language newspaper, The Peninsula commended in its editorial on Thursday the development of the bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the United Mexican States, after 46 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The paper said that the diplomatic relations between Qatar and Mexico started on June 30 of 1975, but there was no strong trade and diplomatic relations between the two sides until 2014- when Qatar opened its embassy in Mexico City a year before Mexico opened its embassy in Doha.
The relations between the two countries has been through significant growth in diplomatic, trade and sports affairs, as well as cultural exchange, the paper added.
The paper explained that there was a turning point in the common interest in diversifying dialogue and growing as trading partners, during the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Mexico in 2015, which was followed by a visit of the president of Mexico at that time Enrique Pena Nieto to the State of Qatar in January of 2016, leading to strong bilateral synergy.
For years, the trade relations between the two countries were limited to natural gas, Qatari aluminum ingots, and Mexican trucks and vehicles, but relations developed over the past decade, as bilateral agreements included many aspects of social, economic and political cooperation, and the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to about USD 200 million.
The Peninsula concluded its editorial by praising the impressive bilateral relations that the State of Qatar has with the world's countries, which remain worthy of admiration as Doha continues its efforts to defend peace and respect international law. (QNA)
