The US Department of State Honors Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs to Mark the Release of the 2021 TIP Report

Doha, July 01 (QNA) - HE US Secretary of State Antony Blinken honored Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development ,Labour and Social Affairs Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidli as one of the heroes of combating human trafficking, during a virtual ceremony marking the release of the 2021 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The honoring is awarded to individuals who showed exceptional commitment to combatting human trafficking. A total of eight people from all over the world were recognized during the ceremony. The recognition crowns the efforts of the State of Qatar in countering human trafficking, and protecting expat workers and their rights in accordance with international standards and in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs worked in that framework on supporting the state's efforts in developing labor laws. The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking meanwhile coordinated national efforts in that field, in cooperation with the rest of the ministries and designated authorities, in order to provide protection to expat workers in line with the provisions of the law on combatting human trafficking and treaties ratified by the State of Qatar. The US Department of State praised the State of Qatar's commitment to implementing labor reforms to improve the conditions for workers and prevent forced labor, through the work done by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. The Department of State noted that the award was in recognition of the efforts made to reform the Kafala system, address with violations of workers' rights in Qatar, and implement policies and programs that enhances the rights of expat workers. Suck policies and programs include establishing labor dispute-resolution committees, canceling exit permit requirements, implementing a minimum wage with no discrimination, and canceling the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
