Al-Sharq: Evacuation of Bagram Base Is Strong Motivation to Achieve Comprehensive Peace in Afghanistan

Doha, July 03 (QNA) - Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq said in its editorial Saturday that the commitment of the United States and NATO to implement one of the most important provisions of the historic Doha agreement, which is to withdraw from Afghanistan, should constitute a strong motivation for the Afghan leaders, who represent all parties to the current political process in Doha, to move forward and expedite the achievement of a comprehensive peace that ends the decades-old conflict and opens the door to a new future for a prosperous and developed Afghanistan. Al-Sharq said that the State of Qatar and the regional and international partners are aware of the importance of accelerating the achievement of the peace process in Afghanistan, and they are continuing their efforts with determination and seriousness to achieve this goal, especially with the continuation of the intra-Afghan negotiations in Doha, which bodes well for optimism to resolve the crisis. The paper added that the evacuation of Bagram base and handing it over to the Afghan forces is an indication that the complete withdrawal of US and other foreign forces from Afghanistan is imminent. This withdrawal, which is supposed to be completed before September 11, comes in implementation of the historic Doha agreement between the United States and the Taliban movement, which paved the way for the launch of intra-Afghan negotiations to reach a comprehensive and sustainable peace that fulfills the aspirations of the Afghan people.
