-JAPANESE DRUMMERS TO PERFORM IN ISTANBUL
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 12.05.2009 - World-wide known Japanese drumming troupe Kodo will perform in Istanbul in June.
The group, which will arrive in Turkey within the scope of their "One Earth Tour", will display two performances in Istanbul on June 15 and 16.
Kodo is a group of drummers playing the traditional Japanese drum, taiko.
In Japanese the word "Kodo" conveys two meanings: "heartbeat", the primal source of all rhythm and, read in a different way, the word can mean "children of the drum," a reflection of Kodo's desire to play their drums simply, with the heart of a child.
Since their debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo have given over 3100 performances on all five continents, spending about a third of the year overseas, a third touring in Japan and a third resting and preparing new material on Sado Island.
The group previously performed in Turkey once, within the framework of the 5th International Istanbul Jazz Festival in 1998.
