Al-Sharq Highlights Qatar's Keenness to Bring Peace to Afghanistan

Doha, July 09 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper, issued today, highlighted the keenness of the State of Qatar to establish peace in Afghanistan, especially in light of the acceleration of developments, and the near completion of the withdrawal of foreign forces, including the US army, whose mission is expected to end on August 31, according to an announcement by US President Joe Biden. In its editorial entitled "Qatari's Effort to Bring Peace to Afghanistan", the newspaper said that the atmosphere in Afghanistan is witnessing an active political movement in which a number of countries are participating, foremost of which is the State of Qatar, which has been hosting peace negotiations between the Afghan parties. Al-Sharq indicated in this regard that HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, has been continuing his meetings with various Afghan parties for days, the last of which was his meeting yesterday with HE Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and HE State Minister for Peace of the Republic of Afghanistan Seyed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, during the two meetings, the current developments in Afghanistan were reviewed, and the ongoing peace negotiations in Doha were discussed. The newspaper stressed that the mission of HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution reflects Qatar's keenness to advance peace efforts and overcome obstacles to negotiations to prevent the country from descending into civil war and achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace agreement that fulfills the aspirations of the Afghan people, who have suffered greatly from the scourge of war for decades. Al Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that despite the ongoing escalation and the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, which is accelerating in conjunction with the withdrawal of US and NATO forces, the agreement of the Afghan government and the Taliban movement to promote a political solution and to exclude the option of war to resolve the crisis, and the declaration of the Taliban that they do not seek to seize power and that they want peace through negotiations raises the level of optimism and enhances hopes for the possibility of moving from war to permanent peace in Afghanistan.
