The Peninsula Praises Digital Leap in Qatar

Doha, July 09 (QNA) - The Peninsula said in its editorial today that in this era of digital advancements, information is power and communication is key to information. Daily life of people across the world is highly dependent on information technology, which is more evident in the current period of the coronavirus pandemic, where the so-called social distancing is the norm of the day. Right from shopping, doing business, entertainment, availing different services, education to treatment of illnesses, people have to resort to digital platforms. Most of all, proper informations relevance in decision making, whether it is in private or government sectors, will be crucial on the outcome of the decisions made. The newspaper said that Qatar has realized the vital role of technology decades before and has been keen to embrace the modern technological development as and when they materialize anywhere in the world. When the digital era dawned, Qatar was one of the first countrys to adapt and make full use of it. The Peninsula added: "The latest development in this stride is the Tasmu platform, which aims to harness advanced technology in innovation and provide smart solutions and applications in the five priority sectors: transportation, healthcare, logistics, environment and sports. The platform envisages to enhance the collection and exchange of information and its investment in the decision-making process and future planning by linking and operating all sectors, smart solutions and digital services in the country to support sustainable economic diversification, address key national challenges and support innovation, scientific and technical research and entrepreneurship". The newspaper pointed out that under the aegis of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Tasmu is expected to help move Qatar towards a brighter future, adopting digital infrastructure and a strong technical base that enables all sectors to keep pace with the global developments in the field of information and communications technology to enter the next level of digital innovation. The newspaper concluded by saying: "The Tasmu platform is considered one of the most advanced digital solutions in the world with the advantages it provides such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence technologies and big data processing and analysis. The platform will be instrumental in coordinating efforts of government institutions and private entities in meeting and unifying their goals and providing all the services under one roof, thus becoming the heartbeat of Qatar. As the Internet penetration in Qatar is 99.6 percent, the journey towards a completely digital world will not be a Herculean task for neither the authorities or the common people. It is beyond doubt that the introduction of the Tasmu platform will transform Qatar into a world-class smart city which will in turn raise living standards of people and increase the countrys edge in a highly competitive world".
