SAWU SEA OFFICIALLY NAMED AS NATIONAL MARINE PARK: MINISTER
Manado, Indonesia, May 13 (ANTARA)- The government has officially designated 3.5 million hectares of sea in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as a National Marine Park or TNP, a minister said.
"This will support the coastal and regional people's economy and become an asset for our descendants," Maritime and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi said here Wednesday.
The decision had increased the marine conversion area from 10 million hectares to 13.5 million hectares, he said.
The marine conversion areas were located in eight provinces, namely NTT, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Jakarta, West Papua, Central Java and Southeast Sulawesi.
This is the Indonesian government's decision to realize a long term conservation drive with the target of 10 million hectares in 2010 and 20 million hectares in 2020, minister Numberi added. ***
