Tokyo Olympics 2020: QOC Secretary-General Expresses Pride of Barshim's Achievement

Tokyo, August 01 (QNA) - HE Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain lauded Mutaz Barshim's winning of the high jump gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Sunday, giving Qatar the second gold medal in the Olympic competitions.
HE the QOC Secretary-General extended sincerest congratulations to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and to the family of the Athletics Federation and the Qatari people for the historic achievement accomplished by Mutaz Barshim who is an ideal of the successful athlete.
HE Jassim Al Buainain noted that the historic achievement is the fruit of great effort and continuous work for many years by Mutaz Barshim. These efforts culminated in this golden achievement following his bronze medal in London 2012 and silver medal in Rio 2016.
HE the Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee added that the Qatari champions have succeeded in achieving gold medals and great results in accordance with the strategic plans, looking forward for the rest of the athletes to continue to reap distinguished results.
For his part, HE Second Vice President of Qatar Olympic Committee Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari congratulated the people of Qatar on the new achievement of Mutaz Barshim who won the high jump gold medal of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
HE Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari said that achievement is a culmination of the efforts made over the past years to reach the gold medal. Barshim won bronze in London, silver in Rio and gold in Tokyo, to be a model for the Qatari athlete who is able to honor his country in international forums.
He underlined that Qatar's second gold in Tokyo Olympics is achieved thanks to the unlimited support of the wise leadership, congratulating Barshim on the gold medal which enhanced Qatar's outcome in the Olympic Games and the success of Qatar's athletics.
Board Member of Qatar Athletics Federation and Manager of National Teams for Athletics Khalifa Abdulmalik expressed delight with Mutaz Barshim's winning the gold medal at Tokyo Olympics, praising the unlimited support for sports and athletes in the State of Qatar to achieve such historic accomplishments.
Abdulmalik congratulated Barshim on the historic win, and congratulated everyone who contributed to this achievement, led by the Qatari athletics family.
General Secretary of Qatar Athletics Federation Mohammed Essa Al Fudala congratulated the Qatari people on the achievement of champion Mutaz Barshim, describing it as a great accomplishment that adds to the great achievements made with winning the bronze medal in London and the silver medal in Rio.
He stressed that Qatar's achievements in Tokyo 2020 represent the start of a new history of Qatari Olympic participations and a great push for the future under the great and unlimited support by the wise leadership.
Executive Director of Qatar Athletics Federation Khalid Rashid Al Marri said that Mutaz Barshim proved to be an exceptional champion who is up to the responsibility, and he kept his promise and achieved the Olympic gold.
Al Marri noted that Barshim has proved his abilities over the past 12 years, and succeeded in overcoming the challenges and difficulties he faced. He was injured and underwent ankle surgery in 2018 and stopped for a long time, but he returned and presented an honorable level and achieved the world championship in Doha in 2019, and continued to work despite the coronavirus pandemic diligently until he achieved the gold at Tokyo 2020, to prove that he is a professional athlete of a unique style and an honorable role model for the Qatari sport.
