Al-Sharq: Qatar Continues Commitment to Support International Efforts to Confront Covid-19 Pandemic

Doha, August 03 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper hailed in its editorial on Tuesday the State of Qatar's continued commitment to international cooperation and contribution to international efforts to address the Covid-19 pandemic, by providing assistance to relevant countries and international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and many other international organizations and programs such as the COVAX Program, which aims to ensure fair and equitable access to the vaccines.
In this context, the newspaper referred to the financial support provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) on behalf of the State of Qatar, which includes an aid package to support the sisterly Lebanese Republic, with the aim of providing 31,250 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, as part of the State of Qatar's response to limit the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, and as an extension of its commitment to stand with the friendly and brotherly countries affected by this pandemic and to secure appropriate medical supplies to confront Covid-19 effects and provide medical support to people in the affected countries.
The newspaper underlined that as Qatar realizes that recovery from the pandemic can only be achieved by the recovery of all within the framework of international solidarity and cooperation in confronting this global health crisis and responding to it effectively, it has played a leading role in preparing the Political Declaration on Equitable Global Access to COVID-19 Vaccines, which 181 countries have joined, particularly when it comes to taking the necessary measures to ensure all countries gain access to vaccines in a comprehensive, fair, and timely manner.
The newspaper also pointed out that Qatar is keen to support the mission of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and COVAX Program, which aims to purchase 1.3 billion of safe and effective vaccine doses by the end of 2021, to ensure equitable access to vaccines to 92 countries around the world.
Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by affirming the State of Qatar's moral and humanitarian commitment to providing support that alleviates the burdens of common crises, noting its effective role in combating the outbreak of this pandemic which represents a threat facing the entire world. (QNA)
