S. Korea helps Norway launch mobile broadcasting service
SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has helped Norway launch a digital
multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service this week in an effort to get a foothold in
the European market, government officials said Thursday.
DMB allows users to view TV programs on personal devices even while they are in
motion. South Korea, which was the first country to launch the service in 2005,
has been actively seeking to export its DMB technology and equipment.
According to the Korea Communications Commission, South Korea's communications
regulator, Norway-based DMB service provider Norway Mobile TV Co. will begin
commercial service Friday of ground-based DMB in the capital city of Oslo, with
the equipment provided by South Korea.
Currently, Germany also offers commercial DMB service, while other countries,
including Italy, the Netherlands and France, are considering offering a similar
service, the commission said.
