Qatar Participates in 42nd World Scout Conference

Doha, August 25 (QNA) - The Scout and Guide Association of Qatar is taking part in the 42nd World Scout Conference which kicked off Wednesday with the participation of 127 national scout organizations from around the world. The virtual event is held under the theme "Bridging the World". The State of Qatar is participating in the event with a delegation headed by Commissioner-General of the Scout and Guide Association of Qatar Jassim Mohammed Al Hardan, accompanied by an elite of scout leaders from the Association. The Conference will provide a platform for up to 3,500 participants to play an active role in shaping the standards, policies and shared goals of the Scout Movement worldwide. The participants will discuss the WOSM membership fee system, promoting safeguard from harm in scouting, youth engagement strategy 2021, developing both the World Scout Forum and Conference and integrating them into a new event, young advisers and their participation in decision making, and strengthening the Organizations environmental sustainability. The Qatari delegation is taking part in working groups that discuss institutional matters related to decision-making, and workshops that will discuss many topics on the agenda of the conference, most importantly: scouting workshops for the sustainable development goals, capacity-building work and partners, how to make technology useful, and the virtual exhibition, social activities that include celebrating diversity and the unity of the scout movement, and youth development in a post-coronavirus world. The Qatari delegation will also participate in the vote on hosting world scouting events, which is represented in Egypts desire to host the 43rd World Scout Conference in 2024, Portugals desire to host the 17th World Scout Meeting in 2025, Polands desire to host the 26th World Scout Camp in 2027, and voting in election of members of the World Scout Committee. Commissioner-General of the Scout and Guide Association of Qatar Jassim Al Hardan highlighted the significance of Qatar's participation in such an important event which discusses strengthening the educational features and unity of Scouting, consider the policy and standards of the movement and the progress made towards realizing the movement's vision, as well as the current trends affecting Scouting around the world.
