Impressive Start of 25th Edition of HH Amir's Table Tennis Cup

Doha, September 07 (QNA) - The first phase of the 25th edition of HH the Amirs Table Tennis Championship season 2020-2021 kicked off Tuesday at Lusail Hall, with 3 matches that brought together Al-Ahly SC with Al-Shamal SC, Al-Gharafa SC with Al-Rayyan SC and Al-Arabi SC with Al-Wakra SC. Al-Arabi defeated Al-Wakra (3-0) in the first group matches, Al-Rayyan beat Al-Gharafa (3-1) in the second group matches, while Al-Ahly overcame its Al-Shamal counterpart (3-2) in the matches of the same group. The competitions will continue Wednesday in the same hall, with Al-Khor matches VS Al-Arabi, Al-Rayyan VS Al-Ahly, and Al-Gharafa VS Al-Shamal. The draw was held Monday, after the conclusion of the league championship, which Qatar SC won without loss, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Qatar Table Tennis Association, Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, and representatives of the participating clubs. According to the ranking of the teams in the men's league, the teams were divided into two groups in the first stage, group A includes Al-Arabi, third in the league, Al-Khor, sixth, and Al-Wakrah, seventh, group B, include Al-Rayyan, fourth in the league, Al-Ahly, fifth, Al-Gharafa, eighth, and Al-Shamal ninth. Two teams from each group qualify from first stage to the second stage, which will also be divided into two groups, group A includes Qatar Club (the league champion), with the group B winner and the second of group A who qualified from the first stage of the competitions, while the group B includes Al-Sadd (the league runner-up), along with the winner of the first group and the second group runner up. In the second stage, the first of each group qualifies for the final match, while the rest teams will play in the standing matches. The matches of the first phase will continue until Thursday, then the second phase will start on Friday until September 12th. The champions of the two groups from the second stage will meet in the final match on September 14 at Abdullah bin Suhaim Hall in Qatar Club, while the match for the third and fourth places will be held on the 13th of the same month in the same hall.
