Asian Qualifiers for World Cup Qatar 2022: Saudi Arabia and Iran Win, UAE and Syria draw
Doha, September 07 (QNA) - Iranian national football team won its second successive victory in the Asian qualifiers for World Cup Qatar 2022, over its Iraqi counterpart by 3-0 in the match that took place at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha in the second round of Group A qualifiers.
Iran's goals was scored by Ali Reza in the second minute, Mehdi Taremi in the 69th minute and Ali Golzadeh in the last minute of the match, Iran topped the group with 6 points, while the Iraqi team settled in last place with one point.
Iran beat Syria with a clean goal in the first round, while Iraq tied with South Korea 0-0 without goals.
In another match within the same group, the UAE team drew 1-1 with its Syrian counterpart in the match that took place between them in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
Ahmed Mabkhout scored a goal for the Emirates in the 12th minute, but Mahmoud Al-Bahr equalized for the Syrian team in the 64th minute.
The UAE team raised its score to two points in third place, compared to one point for Syria in fourth place.
The UAE team had a negative draw with Lebanon, while Syria lost to Iran with a goal without a response in the first round, Iran leads the group with six points, followed by South Korea with three points, then the Emirates third with two points, and Syria, Lebanon and Iraq came in the fourth, fifth and sixth places, with one point each.
In the second group competition, the Saudi team defeated its Omani host 1-0, the goal was scored by Saleh Al-Shehri in the 42nd minute.
The Saudi team raised its score to six points to share the top spot with the Australian team, and the Omani team's balance stopped at three points in the third place, Japan fourth with three points, then Vietnam and China in the fifth and sixth place without points. (QNA)
