GOVT INCREASES EXCELLENT TEACHER, PRINCIPAL POSTS
KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), May 16 (Bernama) -- The government has approved
an immediate increase of 2,141 excellent teacher and principal posts for
Graduate Education Service Officers in secondary schools nationwide, Deputy
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Saturday.
Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said the government had also
decided to provide several excellent teacher posts for Graduate Education
Service Officers in primary schools.
"This (increase in the quota) is in appreciation of the work of the
teachers," he said when launching the national-level Teachers Day at the Islamic
Civilisation Park at Pulau Wan Man near this capital city of east coast
Terengganu state.
The excellent teacher award is given to teachers who are regarded as experts
in their field of teaching and subject matter. Even if the teacher is promoted,
he/she will still be teaching and his/her knowledge and expertise can be used by
the school and the schools in a district.
Muhyiddin said Non-Graduate Education Service Officers would also enjoy a
similar career path once the government completed its study on that matter soon.
He said the matter was under discussion and evaluation by the Public Service
Department (PSD) and the ministry and that he hoped for a positive outcome,
probably not as late as next year but earlier.
Muhyiddin said the government had decided to extend the special allowance
based on location and hardship to couples serving in schools in the interior in
line with the caring society concept, adding that the date of enforcement would
be backdated to March 1 this year.
He also said that the government would also provide a RM200 monthly
incentive payment to Student Administrative Assistants in special education
national schools and under the integrated special education programme in
national schools and national secondary schools.
"The date of enforcement of the incentive payment has been backdated to
January 1 this year," he said.
He said the payment was in appreciation of the sacrifices made by the
support service staff, especially the student administrative assistants.
