Bright Chance For Malaysian Racers To FIM MiniGP In Valencia
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Young motorcycle racer, Emil Idzhar Ezuan is on the right track to fill a slot to represent Malaysia in the Federation of International Motoring (FIM) MiniGP World Series 2021 in Valencia, Spain next month.
This followed the success of the 14-year-old to emerge as the leader in the first two rounds of the Malaysia FIM MiniGP 2021 held over two days, ended yesterday at the Sepang International Kart Circuit.
Emil Idzhar has now collected 75 points from the overall of four races in the first two rounds with the remaining two more rounds to be held on Oct 23 and 24.
However, the position of the rider from Selangor was not comfortable enough as there was only five points separating him from the nearest challenger, Farres Putra Mohammad Fadhill, 13, who failed to collect any points in the last race after being involved in an accident.
The accident at the end of the race also involved another racer, Muhammad Farish Hafiy Farid Sezli, 13, who also missed collecting any points but they are still the top three riders with 56 points.
In the last race, Emil Idzhar took first place after the accident in 19 minutes 28.673 seconds while Muhamad Akif Abdullah was in second place and Muhammad Sharf Muhriz Noor Mohd Farhan came in third.
The performance of the young racers captured the attention of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) secretary-general Muizz Azil who hoped the impressive outing would be maintained in the coming two rounds.
"MAM praises the physical and mental endurance of the young riders who remained positive despite several incidents in the races. We hope all will maintain their momentum, dedication and commitment for the subsequent races,” he said in a statement to the media Monday.
At the same time, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer, Azhan Shafriman Hanif congratulated ZK Racing and MAM as the organisers for successfully holding the championship according to the stipulated standard operating procedure (SOP).
"I could see SOP compliance with everybody wearing face mask, and observing social distancing as well as other SOP,” he said.
Meanwhile, ZK Racing team manager Mohd Zulfahmi Khairuddin who is also the country’s former Moto3 racer said the incident in the race would only give positive element to the young riders who are still in the process of gaining experience.
The 2021 Malaysia MiniGP Series was participated by 13 riders aged between 10 and 14 who competed in the 160 cc category according to the guidelines and format set by FIM and the best riders would be selected to take on Malaysia’s challenge in Spain.
