RI TO HOST WORLD GUANGDONG COMMUNITY FEDERATION CONFERENCE
Jakarta, May 18 (ANTARA) - Indonesia will host the 5th Conference of the World Guangdong Community Federation here on May 22-24.
"The conference will bring together 2,500 to 3,000 participants from more than 100 Guangdong community organizations from all over the world," Chief of the Indonesian Guangdong Community Federation Sugeng Prananto said here on Monday.
The participants would come among others from Mauritius, Argentina, China, the United States, Seychelles, Brazil, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunai Darussalam, the Philippines, Myanmar, Japan, France, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, Panama, and host Indonesia.
Sugeng said the participants were expected to arrive in Indonesia a day ahead of the conference's opening.
Indonesia was appointed to host the meeting at the federation's 4th conference held in Malaysia in 2007.
The first such meeting was held in Singapore in 2001.
He said the three-day meeting was aimed at strengthening relations among people of Chinese descent from Hakka, Teo Chew, Guang Zhao and Hai Nan ethnic groups.
"We also hope that through the conference participants could see for themselves how beautiful is the Indonesian nature," he said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to open the meeting. ***5***
