Qatari Swimming Team Leaves Thursday for Abu Dhabi to Participate in Arab Championship

Doha, October 20 (QNA) - The Qatari swimming team will leave for the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, Thursday, to participate in the first Arab Age Group Championship in the short course (25 meters), scheduled from 24 to 27 October. The Qatari team’s delegation includes Ibrahim Al Rumaihi as manager, Omar Khadash and Gesta Fobiza as coaches, and ten swimmers: Abdulaziz Al Obaidli, Mohammed Mahmoud, Omar Ashraf, Yousef Ashraf, Karim Salama, Tamim Mohammed, Abdullah Al Khalidi, Saif Al BuRashid, Ali Al Naimi and Abdulla Al Ghamri. More than 200 male and female swimmers representing 18 countries will participate in the tournament. The countries participating are Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, Yemen, Tunisia, Djibouti, Syria, Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, Mauritania. The categories participating in the tournament are 14-15 years old, 16-18 years old, (general) 19 years and over. Swimmers may participate in their age group only, and each swimmer is entitled to participate in four individual races, with each country participating with one team in each relay race, and two swimmers in each individual race. The Qatari swimming team won the age groups title in the 28th GCC Water Games Championship, which took place in Doha in August, after winning 52 medals (30 gold, 15 silver, and seven bronze), and came in second place in the general category with ten medals (three gold, six silver, and one bronze).
