Saudi Geological Survey Commission issues statement
Riyadh, May 18, SPA -- Saudi seismological control authority has
detected some 182 earthquakes ranging between 3 to 4.68 points on
Richter scale in Al-Eiss Province, Almadinah Almunawarah Region, over
the last 30 days, it was reported here today.
In a statement, the Saudi Geological Survey Commission, in charge of
seismological activity detection and control, said the strongest
quake was felt by the people of Harrat Al-Shaqa village, measuring
4.68 on Richter scale.
The statement said the range of the quakes extended some 210
kilometres north of Almadinah Almunawarah from the epicenter of the
quake located in Harrat Al-Shaqa village.
Additional seismological detection stations were installed in the
quake-stricken area to intensify the follow-up and control process,
the statement added.
The statement reassured the people of Al-Eiss Province about the
keenness of the Saudi leadership at all levels on their safety, with
necessary preventive measures taken. In this regard, the statement
urged people to remove shaky buildings and cottages to evade
disastrous results and remain vigilant until this activity was over.
