11 FISHING BOATS GET LICENCES FOR FISHING TOURISM

KOTA BAHARU (Malaysia), May 18 (Bernama) -- The northeast state of Kelantan
Fisheries Department has approved licences for 11 fishing boat owners to be
pioneers in fishing tourism that could increase their income and draw tourists
to the state.

The department's director, Zawawi Ali, said the boat owners could now ferry
passengers for fishing activity.

"Individuals or groups will be charged between RM300 and RM400 for a day's
trip. The price is reasonable to experience a pleasurable day at sea," he told
reporters here Monday.

Zawawi said previously the boat owners had licences just for fishing.

"The process of getting a licence is not diffcult. However, we will ensure
the boats are save and have safety equipment like life-jackets. Passengers will
be limited to 10 a boat for safety reasons," he said. (US$1=RM3.56)
