DUMAI AIRPORT CLOSED DUE TO HAZE
Dumai, Riau Province, May 19 (ANTARA) - Pinang Kampai Airport in Dumai City, Riau Province, was closed on since Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. local time due to tick haze covering the eastern coastal area of Sumatra Island.
"Since this morning at 7 am we have closed the airport because the haze is disturbing the visibility, and even the departure one flight which supposed to land, has been postponed so far," Edy Tukiatnadi, head of the Pinang Kampai airport, said here on Tuesday.
He said a Pelita Air plane supposed to land at 9.20 am local time, but because of the airport closure, the plane being chartered by PT Chevron for Jakarta-Pekanbaru-Dumai route, postponed its departure.
The visibility at the airport was only 100 meters, while the normal condition should be one kilometer, he said.
Dumai City located at the eastern coast of Sumatra Island, is a location of a CPO (crude palm oil) plant and a Putri Tujuh oil refinery.
The city is also known as the largest harbor city in Riau Province, which is located in the bank of Malacca Strait.***3***
