Seven Local Companies Garner Sales Totalling RM284.4 Mln At 4th CIIE

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Seven local companies achieved total sales of RM284.4 million (approx. US$68.36 million) during the recently concluded 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2021. The companies offered products and services ranging from packaging and test services for the semiconductor industry, testing equipment machines for the electronic industry, cable and wire harness, disposable medical devices, to exquisite jewellery and bridal couture. Coordinated by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the event was held in a hybrid format from Nov 5-10, 2021. “The positive sales outcome reported by the Malaysian companies was a testament to the huge demand for Malaysian products in the Chinese market, particularly in the post-pandemic period. “The CIIE continues to serve as an important platform for Chinese imported products, particularly from Malaysia,” trade commissioner in Shanghai, Syed Mohamad Fairus Shaik Ismail said in a statement today. He added that the platform created awareness and access to emerging markets such as the lower-tier cities in China. During the event, Matrade had arranged over 280 business meetings between the exhibitors and potential buyers from China. Malaysian products which saw high demand include packaging, test portfolios for the high-technology industry, custom-made jewellery and bridal gown and couture. CIIE 2021 brought together over 3000 companies from more than 127 countries, and featured 58 Digital Country pavilions. More than 280,000 trade visitors attended the exhibition and conferences during the six-day hybrid event. China remained as Malaysia's largest export destination last year. As for this year, trade with China rose by 27.4 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM304.1 billion for the first nine months of 2021. Exports were up by 19 per cent y-o-y to RM137 billion on account of higher exports of electrical and electronics products, liquified natural gas as well as chemicals and chemical products, while imports from China increased by 35.1 per cent y-o-y to RM167.09 billion.
