INDONESIAN WARSHIP ARRESTS POACHING VESSEL IN HALMAHERA
Surabaya, Indonesia, May 19 (ANTARA) - Indonesian warship KRI Layang-805 arrested MV Cinta Bahari poaching in the Halmahera waters, North Maluku.
Spokesman for the Eastern Fleet Command Lt Col Toni Syaiful said here Tuesday navy personnel found 1.5 tons of fish of different species.
"The fishing boat is now held at the Ambon naval base for further investigation," he said.
He said the arrest took place when KRI Layang-805 of the Eastern Fleet Patrol Squad was patrolling the Halmahera island waters in Indonesia's eastern region. At that time Major Rudshi Aviyantara, the patrol boat's skipper, spotted the fishing boat while poaching in the area.
When intercepted and arrested, Cinta Bahari's skipper Marthen Luther Pakaya, a Filipino, could not produce the necessary papers.
All the 15-member crew of the 17-gross ton fishing boat was arrested by the navy personnel, Nomor mesin kapal berbobot 17 gross ton. ***
