GOVT FINISHING DRAFT DECLARATION ON RI-CHINA STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
Jakarta, May 19 (ANTARA) - The government is finishing the draft declaration of the "Plan of Action" for Indonesia-China strategic partnership to be signed in the near future, deputy foreign minister Triyono Wibowo said here on Tuesday.
The declaration was the follow up of the meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Hu Jintao on April 25, 2005 to strengthen the two countries' relations, he said in a seminar on Indonesia-China partnership.
He said through the declaration the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of politics, security and defense, economic and development as well as socio-cultures.
"The three fields of cooperation will be solidly supported based on a government-to-government, people-to-people and business-to-business framework. Hopefully in several months the declaration could be signed by the two countries," he said.
Triyono said cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and tourism had brought quite good results as shown by trade figures that reached US$31.5 billion in 2008 or rose from the 2007 record of US$25 billion.
"Total trade is surpassing initial forecast of US$30 billion in 2010. The bilateral relations have developed fast so that closer cooperation is needed through among others issuance of the declaration," he said.
He said investment had also grown significantly in the two countries with Chinese investment in the country in 2008 reaching US$139.6 million in the fields of telecommunications, infrastructure, development and energy.
"Seeing the reality I am optimistic cooperation between the two countries could be continuously increased," he said.
He said interactions in various regional forums such as ASEAN, EAS and APEC China was expected to always have a strong commitment to creating stability in the region and in view of that Indonesia welcomed China's active participation in the settlement of various problems in the East Asian region. ***
