USAID grants aid to war and UXO victims

(KPL) The Project for War Victims and People with Disabilities gave US$ 94,000
to the National Rehabilitation Centre of the Ministry of Health and this sum of money came from USAID.
The two signatories were Director General of National Rehabilitation Centre of Ministry of Health, Dr. Thongchan Thepsomphou and Head of World Education/consortium to Laos, Ms. Nancy Jiracek in Vientiane on 15 May. The money would be used in Saravan and Champasak provinces, albeit within a two-year period, 2009-2010.
The aim of the assistance is to improve the living conditions of victims of the war and people whose disabilities were caused by the war, by means of extension of assistance from the national to the local level.
Assistance would be in the form of provision of medical treatment, physical rehabilitation and regular monetary disbursements.
The planners were planning for a two-year target of achieving provision of assistance to victims of unexploded ordnance.
The other forms of assistance would be an improvement in the quality of emergency services, bone treatment and medical referral services.
