POLICE DISPERSE PROTESTORS
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- The police dispersed a group of people,
who had planned to demonstrate outside the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia in Jalan
Ampang here Wednesday, as a protest against China for allegedly supplying arms
to Sri Lanka.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman said the police mounted
roadblocks on all roads leading to the embassy.
He said about 100 people, who had assembled at about 400 metres from the
embassy called off the plan at about 1.30pm on police order.
The group alleged that Sri Lanka, which crushed the Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE), had procured arms from China.
There were no arrest.
About 100 policemen and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in six trucks
cordoned off the embassy since 10am.
