MORE FLIGHTS BY SILKAIR, SINGAPORE AIRLINES FOR S'PORE-PENANG ROUTE
PENANG (Malaysia), May 22 (Bernama) -- The Penang government Thursday announced that SilkAir and Singapore Airlines would make 21 flights weekly for the Singapore-Penang route, effective June 1.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said Singapore Airlines would fly seven times a
week while SilkAir would fly 14 times between the two destinations.
Right now, he said Singapore Airlines was making 18 flights weekly on the
route while SilkAir made none.
Lim hoped the increase in flights would help boost tourism in the state.
The chief minister also announced that the state government had allocated
RM1 million (US$1=Rm3.59) for the setting up of a voluntary security team to
assist police in combating crime and social problems in Penang.
The team was set up in March this year, initiated by Komtar assemblyman Ng
Wei Aik, and 150 have so far signed up where they focus on area watch in
Georgetown.
