Turkish Super Cup: Besiktas Claim the Title after Shootout Win Over Antalyaspor

Doha, January 06 (QNA) - Besiktas crowned the Turkish Super Cup champion for the ninth time in its history, after defeating Antalyaspor 4-2 on penalties, after they tied 1-1 in extra and regular time in the match played this evening at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. Besiktas scored first by Canadian player Atiba Hutchinson in the 34th minute, before the same player equalized the result in favor of Antalyaspor by owning an own goal at the 75th minute. The tie remained in the original time and in the extra two halves, to resort to penalty kicks, which smiled in favor of the Besiktas team. The match is one of the many dress rehearsal events Qatar is hosting ahead of organizing the FIFA World Cup later this year. Over the past two years, Doha hosted many important official international matches amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the AFC Champions League competitions for the West and East regions and the AFC Champions League final 2020. Doha also hosted the Italian Super Cup in 2014 and 2016, and other international friendly matches due to its enormous organizational capabilities and distinguished facilities that make it the premier destination for various football events.
