FM TO ATTEND OIC MEETING IN DAMASCUS
KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman will lead the
Malaysian delegation to the 36th meeting of Foreign Ministers of the
Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Damascus, Syria, from Saturday to
Monday.
A statement from Wisma Putra or Foreign Ministry said the annual meeting was
expected to consider new proposals by member states and review the progress in
the implementation of the OIC resolutions that had been adopted at last year's
meeting in Kampala, Uganda.
The statement said Malaysia would bring forth to the council concerned the
need to enhance economic cooperation, alleviate poverty and foster collaboration
in the field of science and technology.
"A Malaysian initiative spearheaded by CyberSecurity Malaysia to establish
the Computer Emergency Response Team Among OIC Countries is expected to be
granted OIC Affiliated Institution status upon approval by the council," the
statement said.
Anifah will be accompanied by officials from the ministry and other
government agencies, including representatives from CyberSecurity Malaysia,
University Sains Malaysia and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.
He is also scheduled to have meetings with several of his counterparts on
the sidelines of the meeting.
