CALL TO ALLOW EX-COMMUNIST LEADER TO RETURN DEPLORED

KOTA BAHARU (Malaysia), May 23 (Bernama) -- The Ex-Servicemen's Association
of Malaysia (PBTM) has deplored a call for former communist leader Chin Peng to
be allowed to return to Malaysia.

Its president Mohamad Abdul Ghani said the Malayan Communist Party (CPM)
insurgents had killed more than 3,000 soldiers during its reign of terror.

"How can we forget Chin Peng's aggression against the people and the
soldiers during the insurgency," he told Bernama in this northeast city
Saturday.

Penang Gerakan chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan has called on the government
to re-look at Chin Peng's case and allow the MCP chairman to return to the
country on humanitarian grounds as he was no longer a security threat.

Mohamad said PBTM, which boasted about 200,000 members, rejected the call
under whatever circumstances.
