From Muin Abdul Majid
DAMASCUS, May 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman is
scheduled to hold talks with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Al Otri later
Saaturday on the sidelines of the 36th Session of the Council of Foreign
Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Following the meeting, Anifah, who is leading the Malaysian delegation, will
proceed to the Omayad Conference Centre here to deliver his statement at the CFM
plenary session.
Damascus is hosting the three-day gathering until May 25, under the theme
"Promoting Islamic Solidarity".
The ministers representing OIC's 57 member states are expected to explore a
host of issues of concern to the Muslim world, including the Arab-Israeli
conflict and Iraq.
They are also expected to look at OIC's future role in maintaining peace,
security and resolving conflicts in member states.
The participating ministers may also tackle the issue of combating
Islamophobia and the fight against the defamation of Islam, according to an
earlier OIC statement.
