PAKISTAN APPEALS FOR DONATION

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Pakistan High Commission has appealed
to Malaysians for cash donations to help the two million people displaced in the
country's Swat Valley region in the military offensive against the Taliban.

Its High Commissioner Lt-Gen (Rtd) Tahir M. Qazi told bernama that funds
were needed to provide tents, clothings, medicines, fuel, water bowsers,
containerised latrines and washrooms.

He said the Pakistani government had set up the "Prime Minister's Special
Fund for the Victims of Terrorism" with an initial donation of two billion
Pakistani rupees (US$25 million).

Tahir said the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction for the area would
cost around US$600 million.

He said the Pakistani government was determined to rid the region of the
Taliban who were causing much discontentment among the people in the area.

He appealed to Pakistani nationals here and Malaysians in general to assist
in the rehabilitation work by sending in donation to fund's Affin Bank account
number 2000 2062 4790.
