Qatar Olympic Committee Continues Preparation for Challenge Race First Edition

Doha, March 01 (QNA) - The Qatar Olympic Committee continues its preparations for the first edition of the 2022 Challenge Race, which it will be organized on March 18 and 19 in Katara Cultural Village. The Olympic Committee's organization of the challenge race comes within the framework of its plan to enhance the participation of members of the local community in triathlon competitions, which has become one of the most popular sports among the Qatari society. The triathlon race begins with swimming competitions for a distance of 1500 metres, followed by bicycle competitions for a distance of 40 km, and finally the running competitions for a distance of 10 km. The Challenge Race aims to encourage community members to engage in more sports activities and maintain their physical and health throughout the year in a competitive atmosphere. The race also aims to reveal more sports talents for the benefit of national teams. On this occasion, HE Director of the Challenge Races 2022 Sheikh Suhaim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said "We are pleased to attract to this race all segments of Qatari society, men, women and children, and the tournament aims to invite the international sports community to participate in the championship, and we hope to raise the level of awareness of the importance of sport for all, its pivotal role in building the human element and for being one of the main pillars of Qatar Vision 2030." He added: "Our aim from organizing this tournament is to encourage the practice of the most widespread sports in our society and to enhance the sports culture, as the annual calendar of the Qatar Olympic Committee includes more than 13 community tournaments and more than 60 international tournaments."
