Bahrain’s voluntary reports showcased on UN Habitat portal

Manama, Mar.2 (BNA): The United Nations for Human Settlements (Habitat) online platform has showcased the second voluntary report of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Themed “New Urban Plan Implementation Progress” the report was submitted in Arabic and English by the Minister of Housing Basem bin Yacoub Al Hamer to the UN Habitat. The Kingdom of Bahrain thus became the fourth Arab country among the 195 member states of the United Nations Programme to submit its report through the e-platform that showcases new urban reports. The report included a foreword by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in which he affirmed that people are partners in development to achieve the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister described the urban plan as one of the pillars of the government's program to achieve economic growth and keep pace with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030. Al Hamer said that the Cabinet, headed by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is resolved to achieve the goals of sustainable development for the Kingdom of Bahrain. “The efforts exerted to produce this report reflect the Government’s interest in transforming the goals into a pioneering programme”, he said, commending the performance of the National Information Committee headed by Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawaas well as its role in achieving sustainable development requirements in accordance with international best practices. He affirmed that the first voluntary report, which was reviewed at a high-level meeting at the United Nations in 2018, enabled Bahrain to highlight its sustainable development strides, thus earning international recognition.
