Doha, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has signed the terms of reference document for the Net-Zero Producers Forum (NZPF), to officially launch the work of the forum with the aim of contributing to achieving net zero emissions for a safer and more sustainable energy future. The terms of reference document was signed by HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, HE US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, HRH Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, HE Minister of Natural Resources of Canada Jonathan Wilkinson and HE Deputy Minister of Oil and Energy of Norway. This signing will pave the way for more efforts towards the development and dissemination of clean energy technologies, carbon capture and sequestration, encouraging diversification rather than relying on hydrocarbon revenues, and other measures that are in line with the national priorities of each member state of the forum. This collaborative forum will provide avenues for creating and promoting actions that producing countries can take to accelerate the dissemination of technology that enhances the achievement of the objectives of Member States in the transition to clean energy, and promote international cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels as much as possible. The participation of the State of Qatar in this forum is an important step in line with its ambition to create a better and more sustainable future for humanity at a time when the country continues to implement its main strategies and take concrete measures to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve its climate goals, through the use of carbon capture and sequestration techniques, in addition to other measures that include energy efficiency programs, reducing methane emissions, stopping gas flaring, and expanding the use of renewable energy. The State of Qatar, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Norway announced in April 2021 the establishment of the Forum, whose member states collectively represent 40 percent of global oil and gas production.
