Al-Raya Notes Diplomatic Efforts of Qatar to Uphold Human Rights Values

Doha, March 13 (QNA) - In its editorial on Sunday, Al-Raya newspaper noted the diplomatic successes achieved by the State of Qatar day after day at various levels due to its approach that rely on peaceful dialogue and mediation as a way to end crises around the world. The newspaper pointed out that HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah has been chosen President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) for the next three years, which illustrate the confidence of the international community in the active and positive role played by Qatar in the field of protection and promotion of human rights, as well as the solid approach and policy of the State of Qatar towards the promotion and protection of human rights at the local, regional and international levels. Al-Raya explained that choosing HE Chairperson of NHRC Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah as President of GANHRI comes in recognition of the honorable record of the State of Qatar in preserving human dignity, protecting human rights, supporting initiatives to bring peace to the world, and supporting mediation and dialogue between states to resolve disputes. It stressed that Qatar considers the preservation and protection of human rights among the strategic pillars of its foreign policy and a key factor in achieving prosperity and peace, as Qatar played a distinguished role during a number of crises that befell the world, including the COVID-19 pandemic when it provided medical and healthcare to all those who reside on its land and assistance to more than 88 countries and organizations around the world. The State of Qatar also worked with the United Nations to transfer vaccine doses to many countries of the world, in addition to transporting stranded people. The newspaper explained that the State of Qatar considers the upholding of human rights values a moral obligation, adding that Qatar never compromises on human rights. Qatar has been calling for an effective international mechanism to combat human rights abuses, criminalize them, and hold the perpetrators accountable so that impunity is not the prevailing feature in today's world, Al-Raya added. Al-Raya concluded by expressing its hope for a more just world in cooperation with international partners and positive engagement with global efforts, in order to promote human rights values in the world, pointing to the commitment of the Chairperson of NHRC to devote herself to implement the strategy of GANHRI, in conjunction with the approaching celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the alliance.
