Al-Sharq Affirms Qatar's Keenness to Achieve Peace, Stability in Chad

Doha, March 13 (QNA) - In its editorial on Sunday, Al-Sharq newspaper affirmed the State of Qatar's keenness to achieve peace and stability in Chad and make diplomatic efforts to establish peace and renounce violence. In this regard, the Qatari daily referred to Doha's hosting of the Chadian peace talks which starts today, with the participation of representatives of the Transitional Military Council and the armed groups. The newspaper explained that these talks aim to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation and move towards holding free and democratic elections during a transitional period of 18 months, renewable once, in order to establish stability and sustainable development in Chad. Al-Sharq said that choosing the State of Qatar to host the preliminary Chadian talks highlights its important role in its regional and international surroundings, and its quest to provide all possible efforts to encourage and advance dialogue instead of conflict. The paper added that Doha continues its mediation efforts by hosting diplomatic talks in order to strengthen consensus between the Chadian parties, in a way that achieves stability and puts an end to the humanitarian and development challenges afflicting the African country, the paper said. The newspaper stated that Doha plays the role of a diplomatic mediator based on its belief in preventive diplomacy, noting that Qatar's foreign policy has presented a successful model of diplomacy during the past ten years by effectively intervening to mediate in conflicts threatening international peace and security in the Middle East and North Africa and many hot spots of conflicts around the world. In conclusion, the newspaper said that preventive diplomacy is the key to peace, as it protects the world from the danger of conflicts and wars and creates real communication based on dialogue that eliminates crises and also creates an atmosphere of international harmony and cooperation in important areas.
