Chad's Prime Minister Considers Doha's Talks Historic Moment for Peace

Doha, March 13 (QNA) - HE Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of the Republic of Chad Bahimi Badaki Albert considered today Chadian Peace Talks in Doha as a historic moments and a decisive step towards consensus in the country. He emphasized, in the opening session of the talks which are hosted by Qatar, on the hope to reach an agreement among all Chadian parties to set the stage for a comprehensive peace process thanks to Qatar's support, noting that Qatar is well-known for it's efforts to achieve peace in the world, as it responded to Chad's call to host the talks. He appreciated also Qatar's endeavors to provide all means to host the negotiations, as well as the necessary arrangements made by Qatar to receive Chadians for realizing the noble goals they want to achieve. HE Bahimi Badaki confirmed that having experienced April events in 2021and the formation of a transitional government in May 2021, organizing a national dialogue was a top priority, coming as a result of a clear popular demand. He added that the Transitional Government developed a road map for an open national dialogue for all including armed groups to set the stage for a fair and credible referendum,and presidential and legislative elections, in order to rebuild the state on solid foundations, taking into considerations all forces, as a committee would be formed to study these goals and another legal one would be set up to ensure the participation of the armed groups in the talks. He said that Chad, through these efforts and during the current transitional period, brought together the contributions of all categories of Chadian nation, including the Chadian living abroad, to major issues of the national dialogue with firm conviction of the urgency of turning the page. He affirmed that the President of the Transitional Military Council, as well as the President of the government showed unprecedented openness without pressures through adopting a law of general amnesty benefitting all those who were found guilty. He said that the general amnesty law benefited many exiles who returned to their country without waiting for the national dialogue, in addition to hundreds of prisoners of war who were also released, as part of the will of openness and an unprecedented reduction of tension in Chad. He stressed that coming to Doha's talks today fell within the framework of continuation of the Transitional Council's commitments to create an atmosphere of confidence and conducive conditions for national reconciliation. He said that the participation of negotiating parties demonstrated the desire for peace and the conviction that all conflicts could be resolved at the negotiating table out the love of the homeland. He pointed out that sitting down at the negotiating table today aims to build a better tomorrow, as the whole world recognizes the courage of the Chadians in various military arenas and awaits their courage today to achieve peace, which requires more courage than going to war. He called on the Chadians to give arms, stop fighting, renounce hatred and show real courage by not taking up arms but by laying them down with prudence for the sake of peace. The Prime Minister stressed that the success of the political transition period was a challenge that was difficult to deal with without being accompanied by the efforts of all, and that it was an essential task undertaken by the current government with the support of the international community and brotherly and friendly countries. He said that the implementation of the road map was prerequisite for moving forward as well as taking up the issue of weapons and the armed group who would join the dialogue, as every delay in the resources necessary for the success of the process would complicate it, and that the success of the transitional period was a guarantee of peace, sustainable economic and social development and the establishment of stability in the Sahel and Lake Chad region. He renewed his call to all Chadians of different categories,especially the military opposition, to seize this historic opportunity to establish a solid and democratic state that would enable Chad to be a cradle of peace and enjoy stability, through working collectively and individually and bearing responsibility to make these negotiations a historic moment that paves the way for transparent and fair elections. At the conclusion of his speech, he affirmed the government's commitment to provide all guarantees of transparency and credibility to the political process, stressing that all Chadians desire that, expressing confidence in the success and that the Doha;s negotiations would be a date to put an end to the war in Chad.
