INFO MINISTRY TO EXPLAIN 1MALAYSIA CONCEPT - MINISTER
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Information, Communications and
Culture Ministry will go down to the ground to explain the 1Malaysia concept so
that it will not be abused by the people, Minister Dr Rais Yatim said Monday.
He said the explanation was important to ensure that the people understood
the concept introduced by Prime Minister Najib Razak as well as to counter
allegations and criticisms against it.
"Do not use 1Malaysia as the platform to make excessive or unreasonable
demands," he said, adding that the rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution
would remain.
Dr Rais spoke to reporters after delivering a lecture on 1Malaysia to senior
officers of the ministry at Angkasapuri, here.
He was asked to comment on the statement by Najib reminding the people not
to abuse the 1Malaysia concept by calling on the government to fulfill extreme
and unreasonable demands.
Dr Rais said the ministry would go down to the ground, to the coffee shops,
restaurants and "kopitiam", to explain the concept to the people.
Earlier, in his lecture, Dr Rais said the 1Malaysia slogan was one that
could be easily understood by all quarters but the level of thinking had to be
elevated.
"All have rights under the 1Malaysia concept, and nothing in the Federal
Constitution has been removed under it," he said.
He said 1Malaysia meant that all of the people together remained united and
firm in developing the country in all fields so that it continued to achieve
glory.
