Telecom giant KT to co-build pan-Asia undersea cable system
SEOUL, May 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's telecom giant KT Corp. said Tuesday that
it will co-build a regional undersea cable system with major Asian
telecommunications companies to meet increasing demand for communications and
Internet services in the region.
To that end, KT, South Korea's top fixed-line operator and Internet provider, has
signed a memorandum of understanding for the "Asia-Pacific Gateway project" with
its Asian counterparts, including China Telecom, China Unicom and Japan's NTT
Communications, said the company in a statement.
The proposed Asia-Pacific Gateway will span 8,000 km from Malaysia, Singapore,
Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, China, Japan to South
Korea, and be ready for service in 2011, according to the statement.
