Seoul, March 25 (QNA) - South Korea Defeated Iran 2-0 on Thursday in the Asian final qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in the ninth round for Group A. Thanks to this victory, South Korea advanced to the top of the group with 23 points, one point ahead of Iran, which has 22 points to ensure that the two teams qualified for the World Cup. The two winning goals for South Korea were scored by Tottenham star Son Heung-min (45 + 2), and Ulsan Hyundai defender Kim Young-gwon (63). South Korea had participated in the World Cup finals for the first time in 1954, absent for 32 years, before returning in Mexico 1986, to continue participation in all subsequent editions of the tournament. The leaders and runners-up of both groups qualify directly for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, while the third in the group will face Australia the third in Group B in the Asian play-off, which qualifies for the international play-off against the fifth South America in June.
