The Peninsula Notes Qatari Support for International Efforts to Combat Terrorism

Doha, March 29 (QNA) - The Peninsula newspaper stressed, in its editorial on Tuesday, that the State of Qatar once again cemented its unwavering stance on zero tolerance for terrorism with its recent commitment to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), adding that Qatar has pledged $15m annually for three years (2024-2026) to support counter-terrorism efforts at the national, regional, and international levels and the UNs central role in achieving this crucial goal. The newspaper said that Qatar played over the years a significant role in maintaining security and combating terrorism and continues to take the necessary actions to ensure the region and the world is free of violent extremism through bilateral, regional and multilateral partnerships with countries and relevant institutions. The newspaper pointed out that Qatar also constantly maintained that investment in productive and creative platforms that will foster friendships and cordial bonds should be a priority for nations worldwide. Through its education, scientific, research, cultural and sports investment and infrastructure, Qatars commitment to preventing violent extremism (PVE) cannot be undervalued. The newspaper highlighted the affirmation of HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi during the Annual Forum of Beneficiaries of Technical Assistance, the commitment of Qatar to making all possible efforts in continuous cooperation with the UN and various international partners to get rid of the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism. The newspaper pointed out that last year, the UNOCT Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism opened in Doha, adding that Doha has also hosts the International Hub on Behavioral Insights to Counter Terrorism, which opened a year earlier. The Peninsula concluded its editorial by saying that these developments are also within Qatars mediation role in the region to ensure peace and stability, stressing that Qatar has always underlined the importance of understanding, dialogue and diplomacy in regional and global discords.
