FIFA Congress: The World Cup Will Have in Impact for Decades to Come, SC Secretary-General Says

Doha, April 01 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee said that Qatar's organization of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will set the standard for future events, saying that Qatar will work tirelessly to host an exceptional edition of the World Cup that will be the best in history. Speaking on the sidelines of the FIFA Congress, he said that the competition can unite the peoples and turn enemies into friends. He stressed that Qatar's doors are open to everyone. He also said that some of the voices that criticized Qatar after it won the right to host the World Cup should have been open to dialogue and verified the information it had. He highlighted that Qatar always welcomes constructive criticism. He said that Qatar will create a new legacy for the World Cup in the world. He said that the International Labor Organization has described Qatar's efforts as historic. Labor unions also described Qatar's efforts as unique, comparing work conditions with European standards. The Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee noted that everyone should stand on the extent of Qatar's commitment to the various aspects of the ideal organization of this major event, with opponents turning to allies thanks to honest work. He expressed his belief that the 2022 World Cup will make a difference not only for the next 28 days or months, but for decades to come after the start of the whistle. He stressed that it's important not to rush into making judgements, saying that the efforts made to host the World Cup should be recognized and praised. He stressed however that these efforts are made out of the government's commitment and tradition of hard work. Al Thawadi considered that the World Cup for the State of Qatar is not limited to an event that lasts for a month, but will have greater ramifications for the Middle-East. He concluded that there was a great misunderstanding of the Middle-East as a region torn by conflicts. He expressed his hope that hosting the World Cup in Qatar will serve as a beginning to change that impression. (QNA)
