Victory of Battalion II marked in Xieng Khouang

(KPL) A get together to mark the 50th anniversary of victory made by Battalion II in Xiengkhouang province was officially held on 25 May in the presence of Mr. Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President.
The function was also attended by National Defense Minister Duangchay Phichit, government leaders, retired soldiers and local residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Douangchay Phitchit who is also Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the activities and good deed made by the Battalion II during the past 50 years. He said that on May 18, 1959 is a historically significant day for the party and the Lao People’s Army because it was the day the Pathelao’s Battalion II broke through the enemy’s siege of the Plain of jars and escaped to safety.
The victory marked a turning point in resisting the aggression of American imperialists and their henchmen. Soldiers and military personnel of the battalion went through great hardships, with some sacrificing their lives to break the enemy siege.
The battalion’s significant victory was a major step in the success of the revolutionary forces and forged a reputation for Lao soldier around the world, said Mr. Douangchay.
On the same day, Mr. Douangchay Phichit also presented insignia to commemorate 50th anniversary of victory to the soldiers and military officers of Battalion II including President Choummaly Sayasone.
