GOVT, DPR MEET ON COMPLETION OF PENDING BILLS

Jakarta, May 27 (ANTARA) - The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) discussed the completion of several bills at a consultative meeting at the State Palace here on Wednesday.

The discussions and passage of the bills by the House was expected to be accomplished soon or before the end of the present House's and government's terms.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the meeting was expected to facilitate communication between the government and the DPR to get a common views on matters recommended by a special team.

"We still have time and spirit to complete the bills as soon as possible," President Yudhoyono said.

Present at the meeting which started at 11 a.m. were House Speaker Agung Laksono, House Deputy Speaker Muhaimin Inskandar, and a number of House special committee chairmen to discuss among others the bill on military tribunal, drugs, currency, and others.

Present from the government side were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, Coordinating Minister for Economy Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono, Attorney General Hendarman Supanji, and a number of other cabinet ministers.

House Speaker Agung Laksono said the consultation meeting was held at the request of the DPR.***
