Police Hunt Duo Who Threw Home-Made Explosives Near Thai PM’s Residence

BANGKOK, April 11 (Bernama) -- Thai police are looking for two men who threw two home-made explosive devices near the entrance to Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha’s residence in Bangkok on Sunday night. A small explosion was reported, however there were no casualties or injuries reported in the 7.50 pm (local time) incident. In a statement, government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said two ping pong bombs were hurled onto the lawn in front of the security booth at the entrance of the 1st Infantry Regiment at Vibhavi Rangsit Road in Bangkok, where the prime minister’s residence is located. He said the prime minister had no comment on the incident and had not given any specific instructions on the incident. “The CCTV footage showed two men riding on a motorcycle to the front gate of the 1st Infantry Regiment and the pillion rider hurling the ping pong bombs which landed on the lawn in front of the security booth,” he said. Thanakorn said the regiment had filed a police report later. “The police are hunting for the culprits,” he said. Thanakorn said the prime minister urged the police to investigate the incident in accordance with normal procedure. He said Prayut would continue to work at his residence during the long Songkran holidays this week. -- BERNAMA
