Pakistan Army Chief Will Not Seek Another Term: Military Spokesman

By Shakir Husain NEW DELHI, April 15 (Bernama) -- Pakistan's Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will not seek another term in office, the military's spokesman said. The chief of army staff "is neither seeking an extension nor will he accept an extension, no matter what," Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Major General Babar Iftikhar told a news conference on Thursday. "He will be retiring on the 29th of November 2022," the ISPR director general added. Babar made the remarks in response to speculation in Pakistan that Bajwa was looking for a tenure extension. Citing "the regional security environment" in August 2019, the previous Imran Khan government had given a three-year extension to Bajwa, whose term was to expire in November that year. -- BERNAMA
