INFORMATION MINISTRY WARY OF BLOGS HIGHLIGHTING COMMUNISM
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Information,
Communications and Culture will always be wary of blogs or groups trying to
highlight issues on communism without taking into account the present background
of the country.
Its minister, Dr Rais Yatim said the ministry could take action
according to the communications and multimedia legal guidelines on grounds that
the blogs tried to exaggerate and influence the people towards communism.
"We will act under the communications and multimedia law but we wish to
issue a warning to them. The process is currently being implemented," he told
reporters after opening the second general meeting of the Malaysian TV Producers
Association at Angkasapuri Thursday.
Angkasapuri is the main governmental building for Malaysia's Ministry of
Information and it is also the headquarters for Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
RTM is a Malaysian state-owned public broadcaster. It both owns and operates
a number of radio and television stations in Malaysia.
He said this when commenting on the decision of the government announced by
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to disallow Malayan Communist Party
(MCP) leader, Chin Peng to return to the country.
Rais said the new generation must understand the history of communism, and
the atrocities committed by the communist terrorists in this country in the past
must be exposed.
He said that the history syllabus did not give wide exposure on communism to
students in school as well as the institutions of higher learning.
"Although the young generation have strong ideals on certain matters, issues
on the nationhood, family and history are important too," he said.
He said the ministry was also taking measures to hold an exhibition on the
atrocities committed by the communist terrorists at the National Museum very
soon.
